Find your fit

The building comes first. Then the service.

Back Bay homes can need quite different moving plans within the same block. Choose the description closest to yours and include those details with your quote request.

Leaving a brownstone

The main staircase may be wide while the turn out of a bedroom is tight. Photograph the route of the largest pieces, including the landing and exterior steps. List furniture with removable legs or sections so preparation can be considered before moving day.

Moving into a managed condo

Get the move-in instructions from management, including the entrance, permitted hours and elevator reservation. Forward any required insurance-document wording to Milvus for review. A passenger elevator seen during a viewing is not necessarily the elevator approved for a move.

Combining homes or downsizing

Mark the pieces going to the new address, the items being stored and anything staying behind. Include a second pickup from a partner or family member in the initial request. Those destinations and stops affect the job even when the new home is smaller.

The entrance determines the moving plan

Back Bay includes a protected historic district and older homes alongside other building types. The city's Back Bay guide gives neighborhood context; your moving plan needs the details of your particular property.

Which door will the furniture use? Identify the front steps, lower-level entrance or approved service door, then describe the carry from the truck and the stairs inside the unit.

For a managed apartment or condo, send the elevator reservation, moving hours and paperwork instructions before booking. Include any requirement to use a particular service entrance.

Measure the route for your three largest pieces

  1. Sofa

Follow its path through the entrance and around the turn onto the stairs.

  2. Bed

Identify the parts to take apart and the bedroom they are going to.

  3. Cabinet

Check its height and depth against landings and elevator openings.

  4. Building appointment

Send the building instructions before you set the moving time.

Peak$180/hr$230/hr$280/hr$65/hr$65/hr
Highpeak$260/hr$360/hr$460/hr$75/hr$75/hr

Discount, Regular, Subpeak, Peak and Highpeak are date categories. Ask which applies to your move. Minimum hours, billable travel, materials and additional services must be confirmed in your estimate.

Stairs, long carries and an elevator shared with other residents can affect the work required. Give the access information at both ends so the crew and estimate can be reviewed together.

Ask which date category applies, how time is billed and what packing or extra services add. An hourly figure by itself does not establish a final total.

Check the sofa, bed and cabinet before moving day

Measure large furniture against the tightest doorway or landing on the route. A ceiling height alone does not show whether a piece can turn through a stairwell.

Send photos of narrow turns and describe furniture that comes apart. Discuss disassembly, reassembly and protection of delicate surfaces with the estimate. Empty cabinets and pack their contents separately.

For mirrors, framed art or other fragile items, request suitable packing for the specific pieces. Let Milvus know which items you will prepare yourself and which need help.

Coordinate street space and the building appointment

A truck parking reservation and an elevator booking solve different parts of the move. Review the Boston moving-truck permit instructions if you need reserved curb space, and agree who will arrange it.

Confirm when the property can be entered and who will hold the keys. Keep the lobby, stairs and hallways clear of loose belongings while furniture is being carried.

If the next home is not ready, discuss storage before pickup. Request the storage period, handling and later delivery as part of the moving plan.

The details that matter

Make the furniture fit before it reaches the stairs

For a sofa, compare its length, depth and height with the doorway and the space available to turn. A door opening alone does not tell you whether the piece can clear an inside corner. Send photographs and dimensions when the route looks close; do not assume a window or balcony can be used as an alternative.

Packing can be limited to the parts you want help with. For example, you might pack clothes and books while Milvus prepares the kitchen and delicate household items. Agree the work and materials in the estimate. Keep the large furniture accessible, and identify the destination rooms so the delivery crew can place items without filling the hallway.

Back Bay moving questions

What should I send for a brownstone move?

The floor, entrance steps, interior stairs and photos of tight landings, together with the large-furniture dimensions.

Can a condo require insurance paperwork?

Obtain its exact requirements and forward them before booking so the documents and service can be reviewed.

Does an elevator remove all access concerns?

No. Its dimensions, available hours and the route between loading and the apartment still matter.

Can packing be included?

List the fragile pieces or rooms you need packed and ask for labor and materials in the estimate.

Can you move a home office as part of my apartment?

Yes, include its desk, chair, shelving, electronics and cartons in the household inventory. Explain whether the desk comes apart and who will pack the screens. Keep work documents and equipment you need immediately separate from the truck shipment.

Do I need to empty the whole apartment before the movers arrive?

The items being moved need to be accessible and ready for the service booked. If you are doing the packing, finish and label the cartons. If Milvus is packing, leave those items available and clearly separate anything that is staying.
