College Movers in Boston

The semester ends on one date. Your next room may open on another. Milvus helps Boston-area students move between dorms, apartments, home and storage, with a plan for the belongings and access you actually have. A desk, mattress and a few boxes still deserve a properly organized move.

  • Dorm and off-campus apartment moves
  • Small loads and shared-apartment inventories
  • Packing and storage options

Where the semester takes you

Choose the move that fits your situation

Dorm to apartment

List what is yours, check what the new apartment provides and count any furniture you are adding. Confirm when you can collect keys, enter the building and use an elevator before arranging delivery.

Apartment to home or another city

Separate your belongings from roommates’ items and provide the complete destination. A longer trip needs its own transport plan; the local hourly rate alone does not describe the total price.

End-of-term move with storage

If your next room will not be available, request a plan for pickup, storage and redelivery. Include the expected storage period, box count, furniture and any items you need access to before the next move.

The housing instructions come first

Check these details before booking the truck

University-managed housing and private rentals can have different procedures, even on the same street. Use the instructions for your actual building and semester. A campus move-in calendar does not replace a confirmed appointment or permission to use a loading area.

  • Check-in and key collection

Confirm who must check in, where keys are collected and when the room becomes available. Leave time for that process before a delivery needs access.

  • Vehicle and loading instructions

Send the approved approach, unloading entrance and any restriction on truck access. A passenger drop-off space may not be an authorised place for a moving truck.

  • Elevators, stairs and escorts

Find out whether an elevator needs a reservation, whether stairs are involved and whether a resident or staff member must accompany the movers.

  • Move-out deadline

Confirm when the old room must be empty and how keys are returned. Tell Milvus if the pickup has a firm deadline, rather than treating it as an ordinary open-ended date.

Packed boxes and a desk in a small student room
A room inventory should include furniture, boxes, bags and the items you will carry yourself.
Small move, accurate inventory

Count the furniture as well as the boxes

A room with a bed frame, mattress, desk and bookcase takes different preparation from the same room’s clothes and books. List the larger pieces, approximate box count, bags and anything heavy or fragile. Include a mini-fridge, monitor, bike or musical instrument if it is moving.

Say which furniture needs disassembly and whether you have its hardware and instructions. Measure larger pieces and photograph a tight staircase or doorway. If you are buying furniture from another address, add that collection point to the quote before booking.

Keep identification, medication, laptop, chargers and the things you need on arrival with you. Pack dense items such as books in manageable cartons and close every box securely. A small load is easier to handle when loose items have a proper container.

Make the budget understandable

What affects a student moving quote?

Milvus publishes local moving rates starting at $110 per hour for two movers and a truck in the Discount category. The category depends on the date; that starting rate is not a guaranteed student package or the total cost of a dorm move. Confirm the rate and full booking terms for your appointment.

DetailWhat to include in your request
Your belongingsFurniture, box count, bags, fragile items and anything needing preparation.
Building accessFloor, stairs, elevator reservation, carry from the truck and residence instructions.
Date and time limitsThe move-out deadline, key collection and confirmed access to the new room.
Packing or additional stopsRequested packing help, materials and any collection from a seller or another address.
Storage or longer travelDates, volume, the final destination and the full sequence from collection to delivery.

Ask about minimum time, travel and any additional charges before accepting the estimate. If a parent is arranging payment, identify who approves the plan and who will be present at each address.

Separated boxes and furniture in a shared apartment
Separate the moving inventory from the belongings that will stay with roommates.
When only part of the apartment is moving

Give shared belongings a clear destination

Decide with your roommates which furniture belongs to whom before moving day. Mark the belongings that are leaving and keep them separate from items staying in the apartment. Shared kitchenware, a sofa or a bookcase should not become a last-minute decision while the crew is loading.

If two roommates need different destinations, include both addresses and both inventories in the request. Extra stops, separate deliveries and additional access can change the moving plan and price. Clarify who is responsible for each part of the booking.

For a storage gap, pack by destination as well as by room. Keep the items you need at home or in temporary housing out of the storage load. Confirm redelivery arrangements once your next address and access date are known.

Campus and neighbourhood moves

Boston, Cambridge and the surrounding student neighbourhoods

Share the actual building address, not only the college name. A student at Boston University or Northeastern may be moving between university housing and a private apartment; a Harvard, MIT or Tufts student may need a move across Cambridge, Somerville or Medford. The building and lease arrangements determine the logistics.

For Boston College, Emerson, Suffolk, Berklee and other area schools, the same practical rule applies: use the current housing instructions and describe the pickup and delivery access. Milvus is a moving service; university approval, residence access and campus policies remain with the institution.

If you are moving at the end of August or beginning of September, organize the access details early and request availability for your confirmed dates. Keep a backup plan for essentials if your old lease ends before the new room is ready.

Questions before you book

A few more details

Have a different situation? Call 857-895-8955 and talk it through with Milvus.

Can I book movers for just a dorm room?

Yes. Send the box count, furniture and building access so Milvus can quote the actual load. Confirm the minimum booking and charges even when the amount of belongings is small.

Can a parent organize my move?

A parent can help arrange the quote and booking. Identify the person approving the service, the payment arrangements and the student or other contact who will provide access at pickup and delivery.

Can you store belongings between semesters?

Ask for a plan covering collection, the storage period and redelivery. Confirm the volume, storage charges, handling, access and final delivery arrangements before the first pickup.

Do you provide a student discount?

Ask about the rate available for your date. The published Discount category is a rate category, not a promise of a separate student discount. Compare the complete estimate, including minimum time and other applicable charges.

Can movers use the university’s carts or elevators?

Follow your residence’s current instructions. Tell Milvus what is available, whether a reservation is needed and any limits on outside movers. Campus equipment or access should not be assumed.

What if my apartment is not available until the next day?

Explain the gap before booking. Discuss storage or another confirmed arrangement, along with the additional handling and delivery costs. Keep overnight essentials with you.
