Work back from the receiving home

Set the sequence before you start packing

  1. Confirm the destination

Know when keys and access will be available. Check the moving window with an owner, agent or property manager, and explain any uncertainty before booking.

  2. Define what leaves Duxbury

List each room and stored area. Separate furniture being sold, donated or left with the property from the load Milvus is being asked to move.

  3. Choose the preparation

Identify packing help, delicate belongings and furniture disassembly. Arrange that work in a sequence that leaves daily essentials available.

  4. Agree on pickup and delivery

Review both properties, route and receiving arrangements. If the dates do not align, discuss storage as part of the estimate rather than waiting until collection.

Interior layout and belongings prepared for a household move
Keep first-night belongings available while the rest of the household is unpacked.
A usable home after delivery

Think about the first evening as well as the full inventory

Keep the bedding, clothes and basic household items you need immediately separate from cartons that can stay closed. Take documents, keys and personal essentials with you. Tell the receiving person which rooms should take larger furniture.

If beds or tables need assembly, confirm that work in the moving scope and keep the relevant components identified. Check the doorway and stair route before deciding where a larger piece belongs.

A room does not need to be fully unpacked to work. Clear access and a few early placement decisions help you settle while the rest of the household is still in cartons.

What needs to be prepared

Match the packing request to the item

BelongingsInformation for the packing discussion
Kitchenware and glassQuantity, fragile pieces and cupboards still to be packed
Framed art and mirrorsDimensions, glazing, frames and known condition concerns
Furniture with loose partsComponents, hardware and required disassembly
Outdoor or stored itemsCondition, size and preparation needed before transport

Ask which labor and materials are included in the estimate. Household moving does not automatically include disposal, cleaning or trade work. Describe equipment and unusual items before assuming they can join the load.

Access at both ends

Look at the route from the vehicle to the room

Outside the house

Show the driveway entrance, turning space, ground surface, steps and porch. Mention a narrow lane, shared access or overhead obstruction before the vehicle plan is agreed.

Inside and at delivery

Photograph the difficult stair turn or doorway. Include receiving floors and management requirements where applicable, even if collection from the Duxbury house is straightforward.

Rates and your estimate

Published local moving rates for a Duxbury request

Milvus publishes five date categories for local moving. The table shows the hourly rate for a crew with a truck. Confirm the category for your date and the complete booking terms before accepting your estimate.

Date category2 movers + truck3 movers + truck4 movers + truck
Discount$110/hr$160/hr$210/hr
Regular$120/hr$170/hr$220/hr
Subpeak$150/hr$200/hr$250/hr
Peak$180/hr$230/hr$280/hr
Highpeak$260/hr$360/hr$460/hr

Additional mover and additional truck rates are $55/hour each in the Discount category, $65/hour each in Regular, Subpeak and Peak, and $75/hour each in Highpeak. Ask which crew and vehicle arrangement fits your inventory.

The hourly rate is one part of the estimate. Confirm minimum billable time, travel, packing labor and materials, access-related work and any other applicable charges. A move is not booked by viewing these rates.

When plans change

Make a waiting period explicit

A closing date, building work or a delayed handover can leave a gap between homes. If that is likely, ask about storage availability and the complete sequence: collection, storage handling, duration and redelivery. Keep belongings you may need during that interval out of the stored group.

For a direct move, give Milvus the receiving address and access window. For a destination outside Massachusetts, request an interstate estimate with the delivery arrangement explained. Do not use the local hourly table as a complete price for an out-of-state journey.

Milvus operates from Waltham. Travel is an important part of a Duxbury appointment, so ask how it is included or charged and confirm the minimum billable time and all additional services.

Questions before you book

A few more details

Have a different situation? Call 857-895-8955 and talk it through with Milvus.

Can you move selected furniture into a Duxbury home?

Send an itemized list and every pickup and delivery address. Include dimensions, packing requirements and the receiving room for larger pieces.

What if the house is not ready on the planned delivery day?

Contact Milvus as soon as the change is known. Discuss appointment changes or storage, with availability and the relevant charges confirmed.

Does a driveway remove the need for an access review?

No. Width, slope, surface, turning space and the route to the entrance still matter. Photos help explain a driveway that looks simple in an address listing.

Can Milvus pack fragile kitchenware?

Request the quantity and type of items you want packed. Have the labor, materials and packing appointment confirmed with your estimate.

How should I prepare for the first night after moving?

Keep personal essentials and the bedding and clothes you need available. Label cartons by room and decide where larger furniture should be placed.

Are storage and redelivery included in the moving rate?

They need to be discussed separately. Request storage conditions, handling, billing and later delivery charges before collection.
