Move an owner-packed home
Have ordinary cartons closed and labeled by room. Identify the furniture and fragile pieces that still need preparation, plus any bed or table that needs agreed disassembly.

Move your Dedham household with the furniture, entrance and receiving rooms planned together. Milvus handles local moving and packing, from an owner-packed apartment to a house that needs more preparation. Storage is available when the dates between homes do not line up.
Your estimate depends on the items, access and services you need.

A porch, a short run of steps and a narrow inner door can each affect the route for a sofa or dresser. Photograph the approach from the driveway, the open entrance and any turn immediately inside. Include the larger furniture in your inventory so Milvus can consider the route with the item.
If there is a side entrance or a wider door at the back, mention it. An alternative route may be useful, but it still needs to be reviewed for steps, ground surface and the walk to the truck. Do not remove doors or dismantle furniture without agreeing on the preparation first.
At delivery, check the route to the intended room. Getting a cabinet into the house does not establish that it will turn into an upstairs bedroom.
Have ordinary cartons closed and labeled by room. Identify the furniture and fragile pieces that still need preparation, plus any bed or table that needs agreed disassembly.
Request selected-item, room or household packing. Tell Milvus which cupboards and rooms remain unpacked so labor, materials and the appointment can be discussed accurately.
List the exact furniture and carton count. Include every collection and receiving address; a few items still need access, travel and minimum billing terms reviewed.
Milvus publishes five date categories for local moving. The table shows the hourly rate for a crew with a truck. Confirm the category for your date and the complete booking terms before accepting your estimate.
| Date category | 2 movers + truck | 3 movers + truck | 4 movers + truck |
|---|---|---|---|
| Discount | $110/hr | $160/hr | $210/hr |
| Regular | $120/hr | $170/hr | $220/hr |
| Subpeak | $150/hr | $200/hr | $250/hr |
| Peak | $180/hr | $230/hr | $280/hr |
| Highpeak | $260/hr | $360/hr | $460/hr |
Additional mover and additional truck rates are $55/hour each in the Discount category, $65/hour each in Regular, Subpeak and Peak, and $75/hour each in Highpeak. Ask which crew and vehicle arrangement fits your inventory.
The hourly rate is one part of the estimate. Confirm minimum billable time, travel, packing labor and materials, access-related work and any other applicable charges. A move is not booked by viewing these rates.
Keep the agreed driveway or approach clear. Describe any slope, low branch, shared access or space that is too small for the vehicle being discussed.
Obtain moving hours, elevator and loading reservations, and any insurance-document requirements. Pass the instructions to Milvus while the move is being arranged.
Check the parking and loading arrangement for that exact property. A resident space or a convenient gap between cars should not be treated as a reserved truck bay.
Confirm keys, an available contact and a clear route to the rooms. Let Milvus know if another delivery, contractor or building appointment will use the same entrance.
| Item or group | Receiving decision |
|---|---|
| Bed and mattress | Which room, usable stair route and agreed assembly |
| Sofa or sectional | Doorway turns, removable parts and final position |
| Dining furniture | Table position, components and chairs belonging with it |
| Cartons | Room labels and a clear place to stack them |
| Stored belongings | Separate list and the later receiving arrangement |
A quick room sketch can save repeated explanations when someone else receives the load. Keep hallways open and identify furniture that should stay where it is. Wall mounting, appliance connections and other trade work need their own arrangements.
If closing, renovation or a lease handover delays delivery, discuss storage before pickup. Separate the inventory that can wait from essentials you need with you, and ask about storage conditions, access and the expected billing period.
Request the collection, storage handling and redelivery charges together. Update Milvus when the receiving address or date changes; availability and access need to be confirmed for the later appointment too.
Milvus is based in Waltham. For a Dedham move, confirm how travel and billable time are calculated. If your destination is outside Massachusetts, request an interstate estimate for the complete route.

Describe the floor, stair turns and furniture dimensions, and send photos of difficult access. The crew and preparation should be planned around the actual items and route.
Packing can be discussed for selected belongings, rooms or the household. Specify what you need and confirm the labor, materials and schedule in the estimate.
Ask management for its moving procedure and reserve the required access. Share the appointment window, loading instructions and paperwork requirements with Milvus.
Identify each group and destination before booking. Ask for the stop sequence, handling, storage and later delivery terms to be explained.
The final estimate also depends on the date category, billable time, travel and requested work. Confirm minimum time and any applicable additional charges before booking.
Tell Milvus before the move. Agree on a suitable receiving arrangement or discuss storage instead of assuming the furniture can be moved again later within the same scope.
Add the receiving address, moving date and photos of any awkward entrance or stair turn. We can work through the rest with you.
