Start with the dates you can actually use the property
A home used seasonally
Confirm who provides access, what furniture stays and when the property is vacant. If an owner or caretaker receives the load, give them the inventory and room instructions in advance.
Define the household
Furniture already in the cottage changes the list
When a property is partly furnished, identify each piece that stays and each piece being replaced or moved elsewhere. Do the same with linens, kitchenware and stored belongings. A room count alone can be misleading when the home contains two sets of household items.
Label cartons by destination room and separate anything intended for another address. If an extra stop is needed, add it before the route is agreed. Moving does not automatically include disposing of furniture left behind.
Keep the home’s entrance and main passage usable while packing. A neat stack beside a wall is easier to work around than open cartons spread across the carrying route.

Discuss travel and access together

If you pack, close cartons and keep them manageable to carry. Mark rooms clearly and update the expected carton count when the load changes.
Personal essentials
Keep keys, documents, medication and the belongings needed during any storage period with you. Do not rely on accessing a carton after the load has left.
