Packing a small load
Prepare clothes and everyday items yourself, or request help with the packing. Count the cartons and identify fragile contents so labor and materials can be included accurately.

Moving from an Amherst apartment, a shared student home or a house outside the center? Tell Milvus the route as well as the inventory. We can quote the packing, travel and access together, including a storage gap if the lease dates do not line up.
Your estimate depends on the items, access and services you need.
Prefer to talk? 857-895-8955An Amherst student move may involve university housing, a private rental, a family home or storage. Use the instructions for your actual residence. The college calendar and the lease do not always give you access on the same day.
Confirm the move-out deadline and key return. Tell the moving team if pickup must finish within a fixed window.
Check key collection, building entry and any appointment or escort requirement. Allow for those steps before delivery.
If there is a gap, request a complete storage arrangement with pickup, handling and redelivery. Keep the things needed during that gap with you.
If a parent or another person is arranging the booking, identify who approves the work and who will meet the crew at each address.
| Your move | The details to settle first |
|---|---|
| Within Amherst or nearby | The inventory, access at both homes, crew, date category and travel arrangements for the appointment. |
| Amherst to Greater Boston, or the return trip | The full addresses, loading and receiving windows, driving portion and how the complete job will be priced. |
| Amherst to another state | The route estimate, requested services, pickup and delivery windows, and any storage before the final address is ready. |
Milvus is based in Waltham. Ask for the total expected charges for your Amherst move, including travel and applicable minimums, rather than comparing only an advertised hourly rate.

Count furniture, boxes and bags separately. Include a desk and chair, shelves, a mattress and bed frame, kitchen belongings and anything kept in a basement or shared storage area. Photograph larger pieces if you are unsure how to describe them.
For a partial-household move, make clear what is leaving and what belongs to other residents. A shared sofa, table or appliance should have an agreed destination before it is included in the estimate.
Tell Milvus about a piano, large instrument, heavy equipment or fragile collection at the beginning. Those items can affect preparation and handling even when the rest of the load is small.
Prepare clothes and everyday items yourself, or request help with the packing. Count the cartons and identify fragile contents so labor and materials can be included accurately.
Say which beds, desks or shelves need disassembly. Keep instructions and hardware available, and discuss the work before the crew and equipment are arranged.
Include floors, stairs, outdoor steps, elevators and the distance from the truck. For a shared property, confirm the permitted loading location with its owner or manager.
Milvus publishes five date categories for local moving. The table shows the hourly rate for a crew with a truck. Confirm the category for your date and the complete booking terms before accepting your estimate.
| Date category | 2 movers + truck | 3 movers + truck | 4 movers + truck |
|---|---|---|---|
| Discount | $110/hr | $160/hr | $210/hr |
| Regular | $120/hr | $170/hr | $220/hr |
| Subpeak | $150/hr | $200/hr | $250/hr |
| Peak | $180/hr | $230/hr | $280/hr |
| Highpeak | $260/hr | $360/hr | $460/hr |
Additional mover and additional truck rates are $55/hour each in the Discount category, $65/hour each in Regular, Subpeak and Peak, and $75/hour each in Highpeak. Ask which crew and vehicle arrangement fits your inventory.
The hourly rate is one part of the estimate. Confirm minimum billable time, travel, packing labor and materials, access-related work and any other applicable charges. A move is not booked by viewing these rates.
A move from Amherst into a Boston apartment can have very different access at delivery. Send the receiving building’s instructions, service-elevator information and loading arrangements while the quote is being prepared.
For a move toward Hadley, Northampton or another Massachusetts community, still provide the full address and room destinations. A shorter drive does not remove the need to plan stairs, furniture turns or a shared entrance.
If your plans change, update the inventory and access information before moving day. Adding another pickup, a large piece or a different destination can change the work and expected charges.

Yes. Give Milvus the two addresses, inventory and dates so the travel and handling can be reviewed as a complete moving request.
Yes. Identify the furniture, boxes and bags that belong to the booking, along with the building access. Ask about the minimum booking even for a small load.
Confirm the travel arrangement in your estimate. The published hourly category alone does not establish every charge for an Amherst appointment.
Discuss the gap before booking. Storage or a different schedule may be possible; confirm availability, handling, charges and final delivery before pickup.
Include it when requesting the quote, with the items and access at that stop. Additional stops can affect the schedule and cost.
Send the two addresses, preferred date, furniture and box inventory, stairs or elevators, loading access and any packing or storage needs.
Share both addresses, the inventory and your access dates. We’ll review the service and travel arrangements together.
